About Us

Okri Books is an independent publisher of purely literary works. Our core objective is to publish and promote quality contemporary African literatures.

Many works of immense value are known to not make their way to the mainstream publishing companies for reasons that have more to do with their commercial viability and very little with their literary merits. Okri Books seeks to discover and promote such works.

One of our main objectives is to promote African literatures in the West. We are however interested in other works of multicultural leaning. Below are some of the beliefs that guide our choice of works:

• We believe that literature can enhance our ethical sensibilities and make us more responsive to one another
• We believe that the best way to understand the world is to see it from diverse perspectives

Our business is informed with an acute sense of the existential, social and ethical relevance of the stories we tell. Knowing that every civil society needs great arts, we want to help our writers to make their contributions in this regard. Okri Books is an enterprise with the goal of enhancing social values.
